Dávid Loaiza-Funk

Dávid founded Diversidad LLC to eliminate language barriers while enhancing inclusion in the community of Southern Nevada. Dávid has a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration as well as dual certification in medical/healthcare interpreting and a black belt in Lean Six Sigma for Quality improvement, and he is currently working to obtain his PhD in Cultural Studies, International Education, Multicultural Education (CSIEME) from UNLV. Dávid served as the Chair of the Diversity Committee for ACHE-NV Chapter receiving the Regent at Large Diversity Award in 2017. He also started the Nevada Caucus through the National Association of Latinos Healthcare Executives (NALHE) and he received the NAHLE 2016 leadership award.

Projects & Achievments

  • Ensuring Communication for (LEP) Limited English Proficiency Patients.

Developed a streamline process on operations for 12 staff interpreter specialists (and 50 bilingual employees) by merging the department with the hospital’s Service Response Center Team. Re-educated physicians, managers, directors and charge nurses on the different options of communication with LEP patients (onsite, telephonic and video interpreters). Increased profit by 30%, reduced operational expenses by 20%, and developed leadership and cultural alignment through Lean Six Sigma DMAIC processes.

  • Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives

Developed Equity of Care project for the organization appointing four administrators as diversity champions and providing them with score cards and time lines to achieve different initiatives in the areas of community outreach, patient care/cultural competency, workforce and leadership diversity.

  • Diversity Conference

Pioneered the 1st Summit on Diversity and Inclusion for healthcare executives engaging physicians, healthcare leaders and minority community resource centers (Deaf Centers of Nevada, Gender Justice Nevada and the Nevada Minority Health Coalition Group). As the architect of the event, Dávid coordinated with the American College of Healthcare Executives Nevada Chapter and the National Association for Latino Healthcare Executives the details and execution of the program obtaining as a result the 2017 ACHE Regent’s Award on Diversity initiatives.

  • Increasing access to language services for the State on Nevada

Leading initiatives on improving language services for the State of Nevada by presenting demographics to legislators and stakeholders and working with the Nevada Minority Health Coalition group to submit a State Plan Amendment (SPA) to increase funding and reimbursement for language access and the proper use of qualified interpreters.
