Marcelo Cedeno, President of MING

Great conversation with the President of MING (Medical Interpreters Network of Georgia)

Marcelo Cedeno is a native of Ecuador and has a BA in Modern Languages and Culture from Kennesaw State University. He also studied Marketing and International business in Universidad Tecnologica America in Quito-Ecuador.

In 2003 he began working in the field of linguistics. He first volunteered as an Interpreter for a clinic in Marietta, Georgia while working on his Court Interpreting Certification. In 2004 Marcelo became a Registered Interpreter with the Georgia Commission on Interpreters as well as the Georgia Department of Human Resources. He became a Georgia Supreme Court Certified Interpreter in 2007. In 2012 Marcelo won a seat to serve in the board of the Georgia Commission on Interpreters. In 2014 Marcelo became a Medical Certified Interpreter with CCHI.

Marcelo currently serves as the coordinator for Spanish Interpreters in Fulton County State Court in Atlanta and also works as an Interpreter for Emory Healthcare.

He has been a presenter for AAIT (Atlanta Association of Interpreters and Translators); MING (Medical Interpreters Network of Georgia), Culture Connect Agency, Spanglish Agency, Emory Healthcare, The GCOI (The Georgia Commission on Interpreters), CHOA (Children's healthcare of Atlanta); Cyracom. In 2015, Marcelo produced and directed a documentary called "Beyond Words" which focused on Vicarious trauma on Interpreters. This research documentary has been presented in Washington DC, Georgia, North Dakota and California and it is currently used for the courts in two states as apart of the continuing education program. His research on mental health was recently featured in the Book The Healthcare Trifecta which was released on June 2019. Marcelo is an Instructor for the Georgia Commission on Interpreters and is the current president of The Medical Network of Georgia.
